Diets and guilt : a new perspective

Don't think about a pink elephant.

What did you just think of? A pink elephant, of course!

Since weight loss is often associated with dietary restrictions, it can recreate the pink elephant phenomenon. Because we feel restricted, we feel like breaking the rules. You start thinking about all the things you are not "allowed" to eat. Inevitably, this way of thinking leads to deviations in behaviour and, subsequently, to guilt.

While there is some correlation between weight loss and restriction, we share another perspective. Think of your diet as a food budget. You can eat whatever you want. However, some foods will "cost you more" than others. So it's up to you to decide how to "spend" your budget. Of course, making wise choices can have many benefits, including avoiding illness.

Addressing this way of thinking allows us to take control of our eating habits, rather than feeling that we are being controlled by it. It allows us to avoid that feeling of guilt and, conversely, to feel that we can treat ourselves every day. After all, you are doing it for yourself, for your health and for your well-being. Therefore, it's important that you be in control of the situation.

There is nothing more frustrating than having too many rules be imposed upon you. The only thing you'll want to do is rebel. That's why it's essential to adopt a diet that will be sustainable over the long term, without aiming for perfection.

Come talk to us. We will be able to advise you so that you can start losing weight on your own terms.
